The Perfect Fit(ness)

Monif C is definitely one of my favorite plus size designers. She did nothing short of wowing me with this summer's collection. My favorite piece is the "Whitley" dress, which is right on trend fashions with the array of neon colors. When I saw this dress a few weeks ago, I knew this was the one for my 24th birthday. I ordered the coral dress today in a size 2 (18/20) considering the 3 in the Emma dress was a little too loose. Also, the smaller dress size would be weight loss goal. I want these exact shoes, but Jessica Simpson's 11s are sometimes too small and hard to find.

Wednesday, I went to a bariatric doctor to begin the process of losing weight. I seriously proscrastinated with this goal for such a long time. Getting fit and shedding serious pounds is something I want and need to do for myself. I weighed in at 320 pounds and I actually thought I was bigger than that. According to my BMI, someone my height (5'10) should weigh 180. That would be so skinny. I don't have a goal weight, but I would love to be a solid 16/18. I want every big girl to know she's beautiful, but health is more important. I have a history of high blood pressure and diabetes on my father's side of the family and that's not something I want to deal with as I age. I got a B-12 shot to increase energy and suppress appetite and a HCG shot to shrink fat cells and to lose inches in my waist. I'm sticking to a 1900 calorie diet and trying my hardest to work out 3-4 times a week for 30-45 minutes. I know I can do it and I can't wait to start seeing results. I want to be able to flaunt my stomach by next summer. Any work out tips, weight loss testimonials, advice you'd like to share?


  1. First and foremost, YOU CAN DO IT! At times you might breakdown and cry and feel defeated but it is possible. It's crazy because people think it's easy but it's hard to break a habit you have been living for 23 years. I weigh 292 and I cringe every time I weigh myself. It's not about a diet it's a lifestyle change, even if you have to throw all your food out and start fresh it's worth it! More water, no sweets, no fast or fried food, stay active, lots of fruit and veggies, pack your lunch for work, cook more. Most important ask God for strength and guidance. I'm so proud of you for taking the steps to better your health.
    Change is so scary and your are going in the right direction! It's not gonna be easy, you will have your days when u say "eff it" but look at the bigger healthy picture. I struggle with my weight everyday of my life and it's and ongoing struggle that only us bigger woman can ever understand. You are not alone in this journey and I believe in you. I wish you nothing but strength and good luck. I'm sending tons of good and encouraging vibes your way.

  3. I love to see posts like this. I have teeter tottered between weight loss surgery and just good ol sweat blood and tears. I've attended seminars and actually started the process but then I chickened out. I love my curves but I have to lose it becasue of health reasons as well. I wish you the best of luck and posting your weight loss journey will def be an inspiration to your readers

    I've lost 48lbs in the past 18 months through Weight Watchers and my gym membership and I will tell you that it is hard but not impossible. I have about 50 more lbs to go, and while it can be frustrating that my body is not losing the weight as fast as I want it to, I am the fittest I have EVER been and while only halfway to my goal--my body has started to turn heads ;)
    Once you get into a routine, weight loss is really 90% mental, 5% exercise and 5% Food. Take your time, listen to your body and don't be afraid to try new forms of exercise along the way!

  7. It is so fantastic that you want to take the time to slim down! Girl you can do this and you will do this.   9. Thank you so much for sharing your weight loss story and goals. I weigh about as much as you do and for health reasons as well I have to shed these lbs. It's been rough convincing myself that I need to change my eating habits and exercise more but knowing that I am.not alone on my journey really is giving me the boost that I need to stop putting this off and start making some changes.   10. I'm 22, 5'10, and currently weigh 206; down from 293 at age 17 . . . the best I can tell you is to to change the way you think about food and exercise. These might seem cliche, but I'll make a little list of the stuff I've realized over the past five years and maybe it'll help.

    1) I don't know if you have the same issues that I do, but I know there are times that I eat to feel full just because something else in my life is lacking. Yeah, it sounds like psychological BS, but when I really started paying attention I realized that I was actually doing it. There's a big difference between "do I want to eat" and "do I need to eat", and learning to read your body's signals is key to living a healthy lifestyle. Your body knows exactly what she needs, it's just a matter of learning to listen to her.

    2) You don't have to cut out every "fattening" food to lose weight, but when you eat, think to yourself, "am I enjoying this?" If you've got a great juicy hamburger and it's delicious, that's awesome. Eat some, wait, evaluate whether you "need" more, don't be afraid to take the rest home. On the other hand, if you have a weak moment and stop by McDonald's (yeah I said "you don't have to cut it out", but to me fast food just isn't worth it anymore) and you've got a big mac and let's be honest, it just really isn't as good as you remember it being, throw it away! That leads right into . . .

    3) Don't be afraid to throw the rest away. Another thing that's beaten into us is how lucky we are to live in a land of plenty and how we can't waste food because of the starving children in blank, blank and blank. But it's your health that you're talking about. If you have another weak moment and buy a box of CVS cookies, then chomp into one and it's awful, throw the whole damn box away. Don't let it sit in your house, and DO NOT eat it because you feel you have to. This is the hardest for me, personally, because I hate feeling wasteful. I'm the girl that'll bring home leftovers even if I didn't enjoy them that much the first time around, and will try and warm them up and fix them with parmesan or whatever else. Not worth it.

    4) Finally comes exercise . . . do something you love. "Working out" get me down from 290-odd lbs to around 265 . . . that was it. I stayed at 265 until last summer, when I discovered something amazing . . . and don't judge me, because this is gonna sound really dorky, but I started country line dancing. That's right, cowboy boots and grapevines and shuffle steps to country music. Going to one free lesson once a week as a time-waster with some friends turned into two, then three, sometimes even four times a week. I started practicing at home, which led to teaching friends, which led to actually becoming an instructor. Now I line dance, take ballroom at the local community college, and just enrolled in a hip hop class at the community center. I still jog (which I hate) and use the weight machines, but while I usually have to FORCE myself to do those things, I'm always excited to go dancing. Some people hike, some people sail, cycle, etc. Find something active that's fun, and find other people to do it with.

    5) Lastly, you're beautiful. Losing weight isn't an insult to your current beauty. You know you have to do this for your health, and you CAN. No matter how long you've been overweight, even if you can't even imagine the "skinnier" you, she's there. You're capable of a great many incredible things . . . prove that to yourself and you'll feel that power for the rest of your life.
